We sat down with Raymond Limon of the record shop High-Fidelity L.A. before they take over our pop-up shop at The Standard, Downtown LA, from April 18th to 20th.
THE ROOFTOP: We're excited to welcome you at The Standard, Downtown LA! What kind of records will you offer?
RAYMOND LIMON: We will be bringing a selection of new vinyl, from rock to electronic, from artists like Radiohead, Flying Lotus, Solange, and Adele, as well as classic albums from Metallica, Black Sabbath, and Dr. Dre, and many more! We will also handpick a selection of secondhand vinyl and that will be out for the first time at The Standard pop-up shop.

Tell us about your own shop, High-Fidelity.
Like many record shops, High-Fidelity was started by true lovers of music and the vinyl format. We are a vinyl only shop, and we opened our original location in 2011 in the Los Feliz neighborhood and have since moved to our new Hollywood location. We specialize in secondhand vinyl, with a majority of our selection being '70s rock and jazz, but we also carry just about every other genre of music there is. We have a fair-sized country, folk, and blues selection, and have been doing well with classical recently. We also carry a selection of newly-released vinyl from major label to independent.
What makes it unique?
I believe the thing that sets us apart from other record shops is our clean, streamlined approach to a record shop that is free from clutter, which makes going through records a breeze.

Anderson .Paak's "Come Down"
What’s your own personal definition of what High Fidelity should be?
To us, High-Fidelity is an overall quality of sound that is unique to vinyl. We try to bring the same level of quality to our appearance, selection, and personal interaction.
Pick the one album that you would bring to spend the night at The Standard, Downtown LA.
If I had to choose one album to spend the night with at The Standard, it will the the album Malibu by Anderson .Paak. It starts off perfectly to put on when first arriving to the hotel to take in the vibe of the place and the downtown area. You can get settled into your room or have a sit in the lobby with a soulful jazzy vibe for a few songs. The next set of tracks are more uptempo with a party vibe for when you are ready to hit The Rooftop to have a few drinks, do some dancing, or just take in the view. Finally the album slows back down again and I can easily see myself laying in a waterbed pod or taking it back to my hotel room to wind down for the night or stay up and catch the sunrise.
