BEST ALBUMS
Solange's A Seat At The Table
Virginia's Fierce For The Night
"We immediately fell in love with Virginia's lead single, 'Funkert,' along with the rest of the album upon its release last June. It's a well-thought-out club record that explores a lot of classic and current sounds and reminds us a lot of Everything But The Girl and Tracy Thorn."
"A lot has been said already about how great A Seat At The Table is, and for us, it was a really nice treat to see her truly come into her own with this album. The message came at the right time, especially given the Black Lives Matter movement, and the songs are so smooth, tender, and impactful."
BEST SONG
"Our sisters The Carry Nation remixed Hifi Sean Ft. Paris Grey's 'Lost Without You' this past summer and it is our unanimous pick for best track of 2016. Both the remix and the dub mix really take us to a realm of gay music classics in same way as like Alcatraz's 'Giv Me Luv' and Kings Of Tomorrow Feat. Julie McKnight's 'Finally.'
BEST READ
"Garth Greenwell’s debut slim novel, What Belongs to You. is beautifully written fiction that focuses on a gay American man living in contemporary Bulgaria, where gay desire is still taboo. The topic of gay shame is addressed in a novel way, connecting the dots between youth, sexual awakening, and how that forms the protagonist’s desire, especially for a certain someone. Along the way, Greenwell’s prose delivers memorable lines that are at times funny, sad, and poignant, making it a must for all lovers of fiction."BEST FUN
"By far, it was playing the Pines Party After Party on Fire Island this past July. Pines Party has always held a special place in our hearts given that much of our friendship and sound is inspired by magical times on Fire Island. Having the opportunity to officially be a part of our favorite weekend out there (and turning it out fiercely!) was a major highlight. The three of us are friends, first and foremost, and it's really rewarding to get to express ourselves creatively as a group and individually along with people that we admire."COMING UP?
"With so much unknown coming towards us in the next four years, it feels like what we are doing is more important than ever. In 2017, we want to extend what we do more into supporting causes we care about."
