Leading lights of the global literati gathered last night at the Top of The Standard to kick off the PEN World Voices Festival and take in a little theater. After a long day of talk about the power of the written word, guests were treated to the U.S. premiere of A Clockwork Orange Operetta, a 30-minute cabaret performance featuring newly discovered lyrics by novelist Anthony Burgess. In the spirit of crossing disciplines, we asked festival chair Salman Rushdie and his co-host for the evening, PEN fest director Jakab Orsós, to draw us a napkin sketch. The results are below.
