The Smoke Rings evoke the elegance and charm of the Swing Era. Anchored by the unique vocals of Sarah King, the group specializes in songs from The Great American Song Book. Since its inception in 2010, The Smoke Rings have played to huge crowds at festivals as well as more intimate settings in New York City and across the country. NYC-based saxophonist and clarinetist Ryan Weisheit began studying saxophone at the age of ten. He studied with the legendary alto saxophonist and educator Bunky Green at the University of North Florida, where he was able to perform with some of the greatest living jazz musicians, including Dave Brubeck, Slide Hampton, Kenny Garrett, and many more. In 2017 he joined the St. Louis-based Americana band, Pokey LaFarge. He also has his own 1920s and '30s swing band, Sweet Megg & The Wayfarers.

Jordan Piper Duo
Jordan Piper’s mature sound and what Star Ledger calls a “melodically-rich soloing” sets him apart as a pianist and composer. He is at home in many styles of music, drawing his repertoire from standards of the American songbook and the jazz tradition. As part of the vibrant music scene in the NYC area, Jordan has performed at many well-known jazz clubs, including the Blue Note, Iridium, Smoke, Smalls, and more.

Our curator, bassist Rob Duguay, brings SONGEVITY Trio, a world class amalgamation of musicians from different backgrounds that fuse together different styles of music, and the result is resounding joy! Elmore Magazine said of their recent album, Safe in Sound: "Rock, world, hard bop, and street are all putty in this energetic trio's imagination and performance."

Yacine Boulares Quartet
Yacine Boulares is a French-Tunisian saxophonist, clarinetist, and composer based in New York. After studying at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, he soon understood the necessity to get to the roots of jazz, and in 2009 he was granted a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. In New York, Yacine got to learn from Chris Cheek, Donny McCaslin, Reggie Workman, and with countless other musicians. But New York also exposed him to a myriad of music. Soon he was part of ex Fela Kuti drummer Jojo Kuo's Afrobeat Collective, late Cameroonian singer Martino Atangana's African Blue Note, and Tabou Combo. Through his music, he connects to his North African roots.

Hila Kulik duo
Hila Kulik was born in Afula, Israel and began studying piano at the age of 8. She graduated from the Jerusalem Academy in 2010, and after playing with many of the top musicians of Israel, Hila moved to New York in 2014, earning her master's degree from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. Currently Hila works as an advisor and coordinator for the jazz program at the school, in addition to performing with her own band, and well established jazz musicians in New York and abroad.

Takuya Nakamura Group
Takuya Nakamura was born in Japan and moved to New York in the '90s. A multi-instrumentist, composer, and producer, he is considered a pioneer of the sci-fi du noir genre, which is a mix of lo-fi, jazz analog, and space techno. He has collaborated with musicians like Coco Rosie, The Brooklyn Gypsies GZA of Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Quincy Jones, and many more.

Itai Kriss, a recording artist praised by Jazzwax as “one of the most exciting new flutist-composers” on the scene, commands a variety of musical genres with an eclectic style infused with Jazz, Latin and Middle Eastern sounds. Tonight he'll be playing for the first time at Top of The Standard, alongside Cuarteto Mamey.

Hyuna Park
Born in Masan, South Korea in 1984, pianist Hyuna Parkstarted receiving formal training at the age of three. After attending KyungHee University, where she was awarded two scholarships, Park enjoyed a successful career with steady performing engagements, movie and TV soundtracks. In 2010, she decides to take her career to a new level and moves to New York City, where she has become an integral part of both the New York jazz scene. She has shared the stage with Grammy-winners Vincent Herring, Luis Bonilla, Linda Oh, Michel Mossman... Bassist and cellist Jennifer Vincent has been an active force on the music scene in New York City for well over a decade. She started as a classically-trained cellist at Oberlin Conservatory and is equally comfortable in the jazz, Latin-jazz, and traditional Cuban musical idioms. She delves into music that utilizes West African, Japanese, and Middle Eastern influences. For the past 5 years she has been touring the world over with the Duke Ellington Orchestra, carrying on the tradition of the longest-running and most legendary jazz orchestra in American history.

Axel Tosca is a New York-based Cuban Jazz pianist and composer with Folk, Timba, Hip-Hop, and Funk influences. He was born in Cuba, into a prestigious musical family. His mom is the legendary Cuban vocalist Xiomara Laugart. Raised in Havana, he started playing piano when he was seven. Axel has been part of Jazz band (U)nity for several years.

Dario Boente Trio
Immersed in the culture of tango and jazz, Argentine pianist and composer Dario Boente is a musician who is equally at home performing romantic Argentine and jazz compositions on a grand piano as he is programming world-beat electronica. Since moving to NYC in 1999, Dario has released ten albums and compilations and worked with world-class jazz musicians such as Antonio Sanchez, Ronny Jordan, and Fernando Otero, and DJs such as Louie Vega and Kerri Chandler.
