Karimah Hassan's "Sweet Nothings" Gallery

In honor of Women’s History Month 2025, The Standard, East Village presents Sweet Nothings, a new series by multidisciplinary artist and writer Karimah Hassan. Created during her residency at The Standard, East Village, these vibrant, narrative-driven paintings capture intimate snapshots of New York City living—documented from sketches and personal memory. 

Inspired by Karimah’s own coming-of-age experiences on the Lower East Side, the works celebrate the neighborhood’s distinct character, from the energy of open mic nights and coffee bars to the effortless charisma of its people.
