Standard Talks x Market Appointment Live

The Dining Room at The Standard, East Village
Tue. Sept. 24, 6 - 9 p.m.

The days of gatekeeping fashion information are over! For our fall edition of Standard Talks we're collaborating with Market Appointment Live to host a panel discussion between Shelcy Joseph (fashion journalist, content creator, and founder of Market Appointment), Marjon Carlos (podcast host, journalist and brand consultant), Alyssa Vingan (writer, editor and former EIC of Fashionista and NYLON) and Devine Blacksher (fashion editor).

Today, thanks to Substack-powered journalism and the accessibility of social platforms, a wave of independent fashion journalists, podcasters, writers and editors are challenging legacy media with in-depth, thought-provoking, forward-thinking work—fostering two-way conversations and highly engaged communities that are poised to redefine the landscape. Hear more in this evening conversation.

More on Standard Talks: Let’s talk about it. Standard Talks is our reoccurring cultural forum where we invite the world’s leading thinkers, doers and creators to talk it out at The Standard. They bring their biggest ideas and best takes to intimate panel discussions. Talks cover topics ranging from art and fashion to science, politics, and entrepreneurship. Over cocktails (or coffee), guests sit back and absorb, ask questions, and make new connections. The Standard Talks program launched in 2012 and has featured the likes of Benedict Cumberbatch, Lady Fag, Abi Morgan, Keira Knightley, and more.

More on Market AppointmentMore than a creative practice, fashion is a source of entertainment, cultural force and trillion-dollar industry. Founded by Shelcy Joseph, Market Appointment examines the forces influencing fashion, including business, history, marketing and media. The newsletter will place fashion within larger social and historical structures. With constructive commentary, original interviews, historical deep dives, book/documentary reviews and reported pieces, Market Appointment aims to cultivate an audience of critical consumers. Together we will discuss how business shapes the way we consume fashion, explore retail shops and subcultures from across the globe, and interview fashion insiders on the ins and outs of the industry.
