Over here at The Standards, we have always set out to offer you, our loyal friends, the best in design across all of the properties. Personally, I've always felt that bad design is like a screaming banshee while good design remains a quiet and supportive friend. This weekend in New York City marks the beginning of Design Week where designers and their fans descend upon the city to partake in the latest in design.

Not to be left out of all the excitement, our latest member of the family, The Standard, East Village has joined forces with Noho Design District, in partnership with Sight Unseen, and will be the official hub to all the happenings from May 18-21. We've open our doors to a multitude of new and established designers and let them have their way with us across the entire property. Let me fill you in...
A sneak peak of Matt Gagnon's wooden fort on the 2nd floor at The Standard, East Village
On the second floor of the hotel, Sight Unseen is presenting Hotel California, a showcase of all the brightest talent from our other favorite state, chosen by editors and NDD curators Monica Khemsurov and Jill Singer. In partnership with Specific Merchandise, the show will feature works by Brendan Ravenhill, Kelly Lamb, Shin Okuda, Steven Shein and others. Trust me when I tell you that you don't want to miss the wooden fortress that Matt Gagnon is erecting out on the terrace. It's my new pied-à-terre.
In the lounge of the hotel, the Irish home goods impresarios Makers & Brothers are taking over the front window to host a design "performance" where woodworker James Carroll will be hand carving traditional three-legged stools for the duration of the show. There will be other Irish born products on display in the bar, so grab a Jameson and prepare to be amazed.
Facet Vases by Thaddeus Wolfe
Not to be left out of the conversation, our good friends over at CoolHunting and Architizer, in partnership with DWELL, are presenting their own show called Scale. This finely tuned curation of objects will feature works Snarkitecture, Thaddeus Wolfe, FLATCUT, Studio DROR, Commonwealth and more. The presentation, as I overheard someone say the other day, will "explore the relationship between architecture and furniture, and the pieces will speak to a new generation of architects testing radical ideas about materiality, computation, and fabrication...all at the scale of a chair." Not sure what that means, but I'm looking forward to finding out.
Lindsey Adelman's "Soundelier" for SONOS
Lastly, our quiet library at the property will be taken over by the audio masterminds over at SONOS to create a state of the art listening lounge designed by Kiel Mead and members of the American Design Club. What I am most excited about in regard to this show is Lindsey Adelman's "Soundelier". Known for her hand-blown glass and brass lighting fixtures, Adelman worked closely with the teams at Sonos and ADC to create this centerpiece for the show which highlights the lighting designer's sleek work while showcasing the extreme adaptability of the wireless Play:3 speaker by Sonos.
Needless to say, it's going to be a busy weekend for you over at The Standard, East Village. The shows run from May 18-21 from 12pm - 7pm daily.
