About Day of the Dead
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday that reunites the living and the departed. Families create ofrendas (offerings) with marigolds, photos, and the favorite foods of their loved ones, honoring their memory and inviting them back for a night of celebration. It’s believed that these offerings draw souls from the land of the dead to join in on the festivities. Unlike most traditions surrounding death, this one swaps mourning for joy, celebrating the lives once lived.
