Desert Nights with The Sister Ruby Band, Son of the Velvet Rat, and Lael Neale

Join us for a very special holiday edition of The Standard, Hollywood's weekly Desert Nights. So, gather round, grab a wintery cocktail, and feel the warm holiday spirit.

The Sister Ruby Band: The Sister Ruby Band is the psych-rock project of 22 year old Los Angeles based Johnny Ruby. After last year’s self-recorded EP “A Shot In The Dark”, The Sister Ruby Band is set to release their full-length debut album “In Cold Blood”. Featuring appearances from guest musicians such as The Black Market Band and the Sugarplum Fairies, this record oscillates between the gauzy sounds of British shoe gaze and West Coast psychedelia. According to Buzz Bands LA’s Kevin Bronson “Sister Ruby’s woozy wall of sound isn’t too far from the reverb-soaked shimmer of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, and, when the guitars are turned down, that trio’s excellent excursion into Americana, “Howl.” The singer himself? Ruminative and world-weary, on two continents.”

Son of the Velvet Rat: Son of the Velvet Rat is the project of European singer/songwriter Georg Altziebler. Purism is the watchword that immediately comes to mind when the Velvet Rat’s Son steps up to the mike. Peter Jesperson, formerly producer & manager of The Replacements, put it aptly: “... beautiful and somber music, their lyrics are pure poetry.” The current album “Red Chamber Music” was recorded in Austria, Los Angeles, New York and Nashville and includes collaborations with Lucinda Williams, Richard McGraw and Ken Coomer (ex-Wilco).

Lael Neale from the blue ridge of virginia to the golden valley of california the highs rife with blue and the lows painted gold floating somewhere between folk and rock and feathers with a sweet twang to distract or emphasize an undertow beneath the sea which will it be, the anchor or the buoy?
