We’re in Sweeties celebrating the launch of The Pink Noise Foundation, tell us some more about why you started it?
As with everything I've always done, it started because it was needed. It's been probably one of the worst years on record for Pride in terms of funding from brands, and also from the government and the private sector. Charities are literally dropping day by day, and if people like us who are so heavily involved in the scene don't do something, then no one will. A lot of the smaller grassroots charities don't receive backing, so Pink Noise can constantly move and pivot to support the most vulnerable members of our community.
If Mighty Hoopla was a cocktail, what would it be and why?
It would be a Pina Colada, slightly vintage, really camp, creamy and sticky, and almost a meal.
Mighty Hoopla has become a staple event in the queer calendar, what do you think it is that the community love about it?
Because it's a love letter to them. It encapsulates the broadest and the widest of our community, and that extends to people who support our community. We're there for everyone, we have every kind of musical genre, it is the best of our community, and a celebration of all.
Pride is however more than just a calendar month, what other LGBTQI+ events would you like to shout out?
Honestly I'd prefer to shout out queer venues, we have to keep queer venues running. The Divine, Dalston Superstore, Royal Vauxhall Tavern... we need to prop up the venues that have been supporting us for generations.
Pop music is going nowhere, tell us your three favourite pop songs of all time?
Small Town Boy by Bronksi Beat, On A Night Like This by Kylie Minogue, and Groove is in the Heart by Deee-lite.
Favourite place to let your hair down in London?
I love a good hotel club, I do love Sweeties at The Standard and I'm not just saying that! I also love going to a really sordid after-hours pub, I like it when no one can see what goes on in the corners.
What’s next for The Pink Noise Foundation?
We are continuing to do a lot of work with brands and also doing some exciting collaborations. We'll be throwing some special events throughout the year, and engaging with brands to work with us in inspiring ways to support the community.
To celebrate the launch of the new foundation from Glyn Fussell and Jamie Tagg, Pink Noise, we will be bringing together a collection of the scene's biggest faces alongside a sprinkling of pop magic to throw a riotous disco at Sweeties with DJs Bimini, Melanie Blatt, Jaime Winstone, and Joel Mignott on Friday 14 June. We are going late night to celebrate Pride and all for a good cause raising money for the most vulnerable members of our community. Did someone say disco?! Find out more
