L.A. is having a design moment. The Los Angeles Design Festival (LADF), an annual series of events celebrating local and international design talent, opened last weekend and Dwell on Design, America's largest modern design show attended by 30,000 plus, opens this weekend. In addition to the big boys, there's a new kid on the block definitely worth a drop in.
Held quarterly, Parachute Market is a design show for artists and designers, that distinguishes itself with a couple twists: First, everything at Parachute Market is for sale. Second, each season the market features a different theme. This weekend, for their Summer 2013 show, the theme is "Psychedelic Summer", referencing post-modern design birthed via psychedelic culture. The market features furniture and object design, fine art, sculpture, vintage clothing, vintage furniture, fashion design, music, and the culinary arts, all cradled together under the theme of the season.
Entrance is $6 in advance, $8 at the door, and you can get your tickets here. AND, as an added bonus, if you flash your ticket stub at SPiN LA at The Standard, Downtown LA on either Saturday or Sunday this weekend you'll get a free drink!
