We go way back with New York City artist Romon Yang (a.k.a. ROSTARR). The painter, filmmaker, and muralist has been a regular at Le Bain since the beginning, and we’ve been a fan of his work for even longer. We had him paint our Basel bus. He designed the stylish scarfs we wear. We even entrusted him with our iPhones.
So when we decided to revamp the rooftop of Le Bain at The Standard, High Line, naturally we thought of him. Who better than RO to bring a fresh new look to the roof? And that’s exactly what he did, and then some. Painted over three exceedingly chilly days in November, his rooftop mural masterpiece, titled “Ceci N’est Pas Une Grosse Pomme” ("This Is Not a Big Apple”), features RO’s signature interlocking calligraphy in zen-like black strokes on white. The entrancing flow of the piece, the musicality of his marks makes for an incredible counterpoint to endless wonder of the New York City skyline and the vast vistas of our rooftop.
It’s something you just have to experience first-hand. Watch the video below and rise to the rooftop of Le Bain this winter to revel in the radiance that is ROSTARR.
