Video and performance artist Shannon Plumb has a knack for slapstick comedy and a penchant for outrageous costumes, she was most recently lauded for her 2013 feature film, Towheads. A few of Shannon's short works are currently on display as part of Art Production Fund’s 24/7 Projection series shown in the Lobby and in-room at The Standard, Hollywood.
Included in the installation are Shannon's films: Roller Coaster (2001) - a seated study of an emotional ride, Olympics Track and Field (2005) - a humorous look at the world of international sports, Rattles and Cherries (2004) - a maternal strip tease, Lunch Break (2009) - construction workers doing what they do best, and Shampoo (2001) - is it Sham? or Poo?. The films are all roughly edited 8mm, the props are homemade, and Shannon plays all the characters - the effect is charming and the results are pretty funny.

About The Artist: Shannon Plumb's cinematic studies of life's various roles and characters explore the complexities embedded in the ordinary and extraordinary. From the humble persona of a new mother to iconic figures from the silver screen, Plumb portrays these characters with zest and humor. Inspired by the curious spirit of slapstick comedy and the physical humor of silent film legends such as Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin, Plumb employs a low-fi aesthetic by using Super-8 film, stationary camera shots, long takes and hand-made props and costumes. Plumb is a one-woman show starring as all characters and acting as the creative force behind her films. The low quality production of the films and her elastic expressiveness as an actress adds to the charm of her work and pushes it beyond its obvious predecessors and influences.
Shannon Plumb is represented by Stephan Stoyanov Gallery, New York.
