Standard Talks is our reoccurring cultural forum where we partner up with various cultural institutions to present fascinating panel discussions covering a wide range of topics, from crime solving to paranormal literary communes to last night's contemporary art world chat on the topic of "The Ungovernables," the New Museum's much anticipated second Triennial Exhibition.
Held at – and in partner with – The New Museum, the event gathered 20 participating artists along with the curator, Eungie Joo, to discuss their work, their inspirations, and their generation (the basic theme of the show is to feature artists born of the Millennial generation) and how they see their role in this major exhibition.
Still from "We Will Not Know" by Mounira Al Solh
So what did they show and tell? Lots of images and inspirations from their home towns: London, Brazil, Peru, Lebanon, Argentina, Johannesburg. There was poetry about war and poetry about love recited by a computer. An artist from Beirut, Mounira Al Solh, trimmed her mustache on stage and talked about her sculptures of slaves made from chocolate.
All in all, it got us very excited about the big show which opens (in full) next Wednesday, February 15th.
