Le Bain

In The Mix: P.Leone

Brooklyn-raised, Berlin-based DJ and producer P.Leone delivers an exclusive ravey mix for Le Bain before he plays on Friday, February 23rd, alongside Cranks and Person Of Interest.
LE BAIN: Tell us about your mix.
P.LEONE: I wanted to do something a little different than I normally would, so I didn't focus on the actual likeness of tracks throughout the mix. I just incorporated some of my favorites.

There is an early 90s rave-y feel to it.
I totally agree! I often gravitate towards that sound when I have some room to experiment.

What was your state of mind when you recorded it?
I had just finished cooking and eating dinner and recorded the mix right after. I guess I was pretty happy!

"I don't think I'll miss anything more than a simple summer day in Brooklyn."

You’re from South Brooklyn, but you relocated to Berlin and your European career is now taking off. What do you miss the most about NYC?
I definitely have the classic New York withdrawals. Some mornings I really crave a proper bagel. Sometimes its sort of surreal to me that I actually live in Berlin... Really I don't think I'll miss anything more than a simple summer day in Brooklyn–Coney Island, the beach, a few games of handball, and obviously pizza. Always pizza.

“Uncompromising” is your way to go. Do you consider Berlin as an uncompromising city?
Totally! Before I decided on the move, I sort of fell in love with the functionality of Berlin. So far so good. I still have a lot to learn about the city. It seems to be working for me!

We’ll be celebrating the release of your latest record, Chances We Take. Tell us about that one.
The EP was partly produced at home in Brooklyn and then later finished in Berlin. It’s incredibly special to me for a few reasons, the first being that it’s my debut on Rekids Special Projects—a vinyl-only series by my longtime favorite, Rekids. The release is a techno project but serves as a precursor to more emotionally-invested music I’ve written, which will land both on Rekids and Work Them Records.

What chances did you take?
It was the first record I signed since moving to Berlin. To me it it serves as a starting point here and an inspiration to keep going and push myself to work my hardest.
