Let’s talk about 2007. Big news: The iPhone was invented. Angela Merkel and Nicholas Sarkozy became the leaders of Germany and France, respectively—while the U.K.’s Northern Rock bank collapsed. Britain took another hit when David Beckham accepted a record-setting deal to play for the L.A. Galaxy, taking Posh and Becks stateside.

Kanye West’s 
Graduation was an acclaimed followup to College Dropout and Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black ruled the GRAMMY Awards, becoming one of the century’s most iconic albums. Radiohead used a “pay what you want” model for the release of In Rainbows and “Umbrella” announced Rihanna as a bona fide superstar. In cinemas we were watching No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood with a side of Ratatouille. Mad Men kicked off a new Golden Age of Television on AMC and the world started “keeping up” with a certain Calabasas family.

Roger Federer had a great year in tennis and Formula 1 crowned Kimi Räikkönen its new champion in a nail-biting season. Britney Spears hit a rough patch and we were at The Standard, watching the world go by…
