'Curated By' at The Standard, London is an exciting new project that brings together influential voices from across creative fields to curate personal collections of books, offering unique insights into their inspirations and perspectives.

As part of the celebration for Black History Month and Diwali, The Standard, London is partnering with London-based creative Priya Ahluwalia to curate a bookshelf that reflect the themes of Black & South-Asian identity, history, and culture. 

Priya Ahluwalia is a London-based designer, filmmaker, and creative with Nigerian and Indian heritage. She launched her label in 2018 after graduating from the University of Westminster and has since won accolades like the LVMH Prize and the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design.

Beyond fashion, Ahluwalia explores multiculturalism and identity through various media. Her 2020 book Jalebi celebrates London’s Southall, and her film Joy debuted at Gucci Fest, examining the Black British experience. She has since directed films for British Vogue and Nike and is signed with Ridley Scott’s Black Dog Films. Her work seamlessly connects fashion, film, and culture, earning her recognition for innovative design and sustainability.

Priya's bookshelf aims to inspire new & meaningful conversations in the Library Lounge and beyond. Expect to see books in the same vein as 'Homegoing' by Yaa Gyasi, and 'India in Africa, Africa in India' by John C. Hawley, which highlight the interconnectedness of black + South Asian stories.
