The year is 2004. Here's how it sounded at The Standard...
Ah, remember 2004? The year started with a commotion about Janet Jackson’s Super Bowl Halftime Show performance and the world is still not done talking about it. Justice for Janet!

Not to be outdone by Myspace, Facebook launched. The EU expanded to include 10 new member states, mostly from Central and Eastern Europe. Domestic diva Martha Stewart was sentenced to prison, Google went public and two rovers landed on Mars. A newbie by the name of Barack Obama gave the keynote at the Democratic National Convention and Desperate Housewives became a global hit. Speaking of “global,” the Kyoto Protocol was enacted as Earth’s most ambitious climate treaty to date. Ukraine saw the Orange Revolution. In theaters, we saw Mean Girls, Sideways, The Notebook and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
