The year is 2020. Here's how it sounded at The Standard...
2020…enough said, right? The year started out normally enough, but the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. A historically scary and unpredictable time drove us to watch Tiger King and download Zoom. While waiting for vaccines to be developed, we baked sourdough bread and stocked up on face masks. It was a dizzying, disorienting year—with a U.S. presidential election and a seismic reckoning around racial justice playing out.
It also marked a “first” for The Standard—the first time our global collection of hotels closed their doors (temporarily). Like much of the world, we bounced back, with an even bigger appreciation for spending time together IRL.
