Annie
O’s live music series in
the Penthouse of The Standard, East Village is a smart bet any time of year,
but in summer it’s a must. We can’t think of anywhere we’d rather be on an
early summer evening than up on the rooftop, drink in hand, listening to the
live sounds curated by our East Village music maven. The vibes are very real
and you should come experience them for yourself.
On Monday, July 31st, Annie O’s bringing Vermont born, Nashville based Noah Kahan to the Penthouse alongside Juke Ross. He's been writing music since he was 8 years old and deferred his admission to Tulane to pursue music, which seems like paid it paid off—he just signed to Republic. Annie O caught up with the emerging musician to hear how he's approaching the wild world of the music biz.

ANNIE O: Where are you based?
NOAH KAHAN: I Just moved from Strafford, VT to Nashville, TN.
Tell us about growing up in sleepy Vermont. Sounds like a snowy dream for those sweating in this NYC sticky summer heat...
Vermont is definitely a dream in the summertime. I like to think it's the most beautiful place to be in the United States in the months of August to November. However, if summer is a dream, winter is a nightmare. It gets really miserably cold and it seems to last forever. Of course, getting to enjoy the snow for a few months was great growing up, but when it came to be May and we still had to sprint from our houses to our cars and wear sweatpants every day It started to get tough. Growing up in the area was really special, though, and I wouldn't trade the support I get from my small community for the best weather in the world.
Tell us about your single "Young Blood."
I wrote it last year in an attempt to create a personal mantra for myself as I entered the wild world of entertainment business.
Is there an EP in the works?
There is an album in the works.
Favorite live moment on stage so far?
Favorite live moment would have to be the Milky Chance show I played in New York, because my whole family came out to see me and find out I didn't actually suck that bad.
Favorite summer jam?
Favorite summer jam right now is "Watch" by Billie Eilish. I just think she's absolutely incredible and everyone should check her out. New Vance joy is dope, too.
Are there any tracks by other artists you currently have on repeat?
I’ve been listening to a lot of Sjowgren and Rainbow Kitten Surprise. I also have been listening to this song "Deliverance" by this guy Rationale. Such an insane song.
If Noah Kahan had a superpower, what would it be?
Probably the ability to make my car air conditioning work. It's too fucking hot in Nashville right now.
What can we expect from your show at The Annie O Music Series?
Every time I get to play my own music at any venue is a special thing for me, so mostly I would expect a lot of passion. I am so excited and honored for the opportunity.
What's next?
Lots of new music, shows in Europe, and a tour with The Strumbellas!
