From now on, each Halloween, a sight to be anticipated on the Euston Road, guests and ghouls waiting in line to get into the red pill to take them to the heavens that is the Shawn Hausman-designed Decimo and bar. A promise of fun with Young Turks bringing on the music, perhaps there was no other place to be dressed up to the nines for the night the dead come out to play. Upon arrival guests were served special Don Julio cocktails such as the Paloma, a combination of Don Julio Blanco, grapefruit and soda water and Tommy’s Margaritas made with Don Julio Blanco, agave nectar water and fresh lime. And here at The Standard, it was not just about scary costumes but outrageous ones were the code du jour from Eric Underwood dressed as a disco king, Anna Brewster as a cowboy, Romy Madley Croft as a witch and Joe Sweenie as a Vicar. Edie Campbell dressed as herself complete with bloody nose and all after falling off a horse earlier in the day. It might as well have been come as you are, or as you (really) want to be to dance the night away curated by the au courant Young Turks label with Romy B2B Jamie XX, Sampha (DJ), Benji B, Shy One and Lil C on the decks.
And it gets better, normally Halloween is about a fright and certainly not for the faint-hearted but at The Standard, London, it was the guests who supported ClientEarth, a charity that uses the power of the law to protect people and the planet to raise funds for their cause. A little about ClientEarth: ClientEarth knows that the law is an incredibly powerful tool for change and environmental protection: it’s the first language of government and business and it drives lasting change. From their offices in London, Brussels, Warsaw, Berlin and Beijing, they work on developing laws that combat climate change and protect nature. And when those laws are broken, they go to court to enforce them. They work with partners to increase their reach, empowering people and charities to bring environmental cases of their own. Together, we are moving towards a future built on respect for environmental rights.
So for each of the 1400 or so guests who packed into the room in fake blood, sequins et all in the spirit of raising the dead, to raise 50,000 for our friends at ClientEarth is no small feat.
