The Standard Soundtrack to 2000

The year is 2000 (and the world didn't end). This is how it sounded at The Standard.
Ahhh, that fresh millennium smell. The year 2000 was the dawn of a new century and the world was rapidly changing under our feet. In the culture, Santana had a chart comeback for the history books with “Smooth” (winning a record eight GRAMMYs) and a presidential election dominated the American news cycle. In Europe, the Øresund Bridge between Denmark and Sweden officially opened, connecting the nations. Steve Jobs introduced the public beta of Mac OS X while Bill Gates left his position as CEO of Microsoft.

Did we mention cell phones? Suddenly everywhere, including the pool deck at The Standard, Hollywood. (Most of our guests had the Nokia 3310.) What had been a “yuppie device” was now an essential consumer product. Here's what you might've heard by the pool or in the lobby in the year 2000.
